India records highest single-day spike of 83,883 COVID-19 cases; death toll mounts to 67,376

India’s COVID-19 caseload increased to 38,53,407 with a record single-day spike of 83,883 new coronavirus cases. With 1,043 more coronavirus patients succumbing in the last 24 hours, the death toll has reached 67,376. As per the union ministry of health and family welfare, there are 8,15,538 active cases and 29,70,492 patients have been discharged so far.

Maharashtra continues to record the highest number of coronavirus cases in the country. The state reported the highest single-day count on Wednesday, taking the tally to 8,25,739. 292 more COVID-19 patients succumbed, pushing the fatalities count to 25,195.

Delhi on September 1 recorded the highest single-day spike here in around two months. The national capital recorded more than 2,500 new cases, taking the total count to 1,79,569. The death toll from the coronavirus infection has risen to 4,481. The city’s positivity rate stood at 8.7 per cent, while the recovery rate was over 88 per cent.

In a piece of good news, India’s COVID-19 recovery rate continues to improve.

As per the Centre, India’s Recovery Rate amongst the COVID-19 patients has further improved to 76.98 per cent. The number of recovered cases has overtaken active cases by more than 21 lakhs. Last 10 lakh recoveries have been recorded in only 17 days in comparison to preceding 10 lakh recoveries which were recorded in 22 days.

India continues to report one of the lowest COVID Case Fatality Rate (CFR) when compared to several other countries. While the global CFR was 3.3 per cent as on September 2, the comparative figure for India was 1.76 per cent. The deaths per million population in India is one of the lowest in the world.

The health ministry said that the collaborative efforts of the Union and State/UT governments have resulted in the strengthening of the health facilities across the country. 1578 dedicated COVID hospitals are providing quality medical care.
